Celebrating 70 years as a leading financial services provider recently, West Carr & Harvey (WCH) remains committed to finding the best professional talent in the region.

Deakin University has played a pivotal role shaping the educational landscape of Geelong. After establishing its original Waurn Ponds campus 40 years ago, the second Waterfront campus has allowed even greater academic opportunity for students both in and around the municipality.

WCH has employed several Deakin alumni over the years – three out of the five current Partners are graduates – and values its local partnership with the academic institution.

WCH credits its firm’s incredibly low staff turnover to the quality of professional appointments. The majority of accountants at the firm have gained their qualifications through completing Deakin University’s finance and commerce programmes.

Deakin University produces the kind of high calibre graduate any practice would be lucky to have long term and this has been demonstrated at WCH.

Recently, WCH attended the Deakin Talent Experience & Employment Expo to meet and chat with students nearing graduation stage who were looking for some professional insight.

WCH Manager, Liam Drady, fielded questions throughout the morning from students eager for career advice.

“Their enthusiasm was impressive,” Liam observed. “We talked to students who were all well prepared with intelligent questions; they were engaging even at such a young age.”

WCH Managing Director, Richard Carr, is also a high profile Deakin graduate being one of the first students to obtain a Deakin Commerce degree after the academic institution’s inception.

Mr Carr was recently profiled in the Deakin University Alumni Community 40 Year Celebration where he commented, “Deakin University is a progressive leader in the education industry and has a growing global identity.”

“In the area of finance, Deakin’s reputation is impressive and gives graduates an unparalleled opportunity for continuing to develop their careers well after finishing study.”

“Personally, through my ongoing affiliation with the institution, I feel a sense of support being part of such an established alumni network,” Richard said.

West Car & Harvey values its ongoing partnership with Deakin University and looks forward to strengthening Geelong’s professional community by given local talent the best opportunity.
